The victory in Indiana last week — where Richard Mourdock defeated anti-gun incumbent Senate Dick Lugar — was earth shattering. The national media’s collective jaw dropped to the floor, more about and the political pundits in Washington are now wondering whose scalp will be next.
Gun Owners of America was a huge part of that victory. “I can’t thank Gun Owners of America enough for their early support of my campaign, healing ” Mourdock said after the victory.
However, salve we’re not resting on our laurels. Richard Mourdock faces a tough general election and people need to know where he and his opponent stand on gun rights issues. We are going state by state to get rid of the people who threaten gun rights and put fresh faces into the U.S. Senate.-[source]
In the small Texas town of Wolfforth, it’s “Heads I win.”
A city council election there came down to a coin toss on Friday.
After church administrator Bruce MacNair and banker Bryan Studer wrapped up last Saturday’s election with 118 votes each, the men agreed to settle the town’s first electoral tie with the flip of a coin.
A special election to decide a winner would have cost “north of $10,000,” said Darrell Newsom, city manager of Wolfforth, population 3,600, which is southwest of Lubbock in the Texas Panhandle.
“That’s a lot of money for a small town like this,” Newsom said. “These two guys have to be commended for settling this in a civic-minded and painless fashion.”
First, Newsom said the men had to sign a three-page document laying out the rules of the coin toss. It specified that a $1 U.S. coin was to be “tossed in the air in the manner used by officials prior to a football game.”
Each man drew slips of paper, with MacNair drawing heads and Studer drawing tails. Then with Newsom flipping the coin, heads it was. MacNair won.
Studer took his loss well, Newsom said, shaking hands with MacNair and wishing the councilman-elect luck in his new post.
“These are west Texas guys,” Newsom said. “That’s the way we do things here.”-[source]
The National Shooting Sports Foundation has emailed its annual offer to teachers to receive–free of charge–its Conservation and Firarms Safety Education DVDs. The campaign is off to a fast start, sales with nearly 3,000 orders received so far.
NSSF believes all teachers and their students, whether in public, private or home schools, can benefit from the important messages in these videos. The Conservation DVD and Firearm Safety DVD can be ordered online, and the three separate videos contained on each DVD can be previewed online as well.
The Conservation DVD contains videos that educate students and teachers about the hunter’s role in wildlife conservation. The video “Wildlife for Tomorrow” is geared to elementary school students. The two other videos–”Unendangered Species” and “What They Say About Hunting”–are for middle school-age and early high school-age students. The former discusses species that were once endangered and have been restored to abundance such as the wild turkey and white-tailed deer. The latter video takes a close look at hunting and its relevance today using a pro-and-con debate.
The Firearm Safety DVD offers these three videos–”McGruff the Crime Dog on Gun Safety” for elementary grades, “It’s Your Call: Playing It Safe Around Guns” for middle schoolers and “Firearms Safety Depends on You,” which covers the ten commandments of gun safety for all audiences. The first two titles help teach students how to respond if should they encounter a firearm in an unsupervised situation at school, at home or at a friend’s home.-[source]
A blind man has won a court battle to own and fire guns. If this is all familiar, it’s because Guns.com covered the story a few weeks back. Well, now that the legal battle has ended, Steven Hopler, his attorney and his beloved handguns have come out on top.
Hopler has been a gun lover all his life, but diabetes robbed him of his vision in 1991. When Hopler accidentally shot himself in the leg while cleaning one of his weapons in 2008, the police decided that he was unfit for gun ownership (because it’s the job of police officers to decide that, evidently) and removed Hopler’s firearms. Hopler decided to take the issue to the courts.
Hopler’s attorney, Gregg Trautman, claimed that Hopler was just being singled out for his disability, and that the police simply didn’t want a blind man to own firearms. The judge overseeing the case concluded that it didn’t really matter what the police think and decided to give Hopler’s guns back, adding that removing his guns went against his constitutional right to bear arms.
Trautman celebrated the victory when he told reporters, “It’s a hobby and you know what? It’s his right.” Amen to that.
The most amusing thing about this whole tale is that Hopler is apparently a rather good shot. Hopler’s friends claim that he has incredible aim, even now that he is non-sighted. And the state was concerned that he was an unfit owner? Pfft.-[source]
Whether you’re a Trekkie or not, you have to admit that there’s some sense of wonder to exploring the stars and trying to find life on distant planets. Of course, the U.S.S. Enterprise is a fictional ship, but have you ever put in the thought as to what it would take to actually build it, and when we could get it done if we really put in the effort? The man behind the well-researched site buildtheenterprise.org has, and he’s determined that a fully functional Enterprise is only 20 years away if we put in the effort.
Created by a systems and electrical engineer with 30 years’ experience, the BuildTheEnterprise site sets out a very specific timeline for the research and construction of such a massive space-related undertaking. The first nine years are dedicated to research, component testing, and drawing up a number of possible blueprints. The following 11 years are dedicated to development, where components will be manufactured and launched into space for assembly.
On year 20, the ship would be ready for a “moon fly by” with full crew and supplies. The plan may seem overly ambitious, but consider that we’re already using a number of gadgets that were that were all but predicted by the Star Trek television series.-[source]

Representatives Justin Amash (R-MI) and Adam Smith (D-WA) are looking to fix one of the most troubling pieces of legislation that have passed during Barack Obama’s presidency.
As you know, more about at the end of last year, pharmacy Congress passed and Barack Obama signed a defense authorization bill which contained two very dangerous provisions.
The first of these troubling provisions in the National Defense Authorization Act [NDAA] is section 1021. It would allow American citizens to be arrested on American soil, detained indefinitely, tried in a military court, and deported to a Third World country for torture.
And all of this could be done without a trial!
An American could be detained if he “substantially supported” an individual who engaged in a belligerent act against the U.S. or its allies, whether knowingly or unknowingly. Thus, if you were to sell a gun to a Timothy McVeigh, unaware of his intentions, you could have all of your constitutional rights summarily taken away by Barack Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder under the terms of this law.-[source]
Authorities say a helicopter helped Pinal County deputies on Wednesday seize more than a ton of marijuana and two vehicles, and expose a suspected smuggling camp.
A Sheriff’s Office helicopter was called to assist the West Desert Task Force, made up of Pinal County deputies and several federal agencies, to track a suspected drug load in the Vekol Valley, north of Interstate 8, said Elias Johnson, a Pinal County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

Howie Glaser, discount owner of United Nations Ammo Company of Phoenix Arizona, viagra 40mg and one of the players in the saga of US trucker Jabin Bogan, charged in Mexico with smuggling prohibited ammunition into the country, seems to be losing all pretense of concern for the welfare of Bogan.
Glaser’s underlying message at the end of the day is “Give me back my bullets!”
On his website, gone is the banner exhorting people to help free the “wrongfully imprisoned” US trucker and in it’s place, a pitch for “golf ball launchers”? That’s right folks, golf ball launchers, a device that attaches to the end of your grandma’s AK-47 or AR-15 and propels golf balls “hundreds of yards” (We imagine it could be made to propel something much more deadly, perhaps of the 40mm variety.)
There’s also two videos of interest on his website. Both are interviews by a moderator from NRA.com part of the National Rifle Association, so you know the slant there.
The first video, Glaser is being interviewed and continuously bemoans the fact of his loss and how devastating it is to him. He mentions this on a 3 to 1 ratio of his concern for the driver.-[source]
