The GOP-led House voted Thursday to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for failing to provide key information pertaining to Operation Fast and Furious, clinic making Holder the first sitting Cabinet member to be held in contempt.
The vote was 255-67, story with 17 Democrats breaking ranks to side with Republicans in favor of contempt.
The vote follows a roughly 16-month investigation by the chamber’s House Oversight and Government Reform Committee into the failed gun-running sting known as Fast and Furious — run by the Bureau of Alcohol, no rx Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, a division of the Justice Department led by Holder.
Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., filed two subpoenas over that period requesting additional information. But he has more recently focused on information related to a February 2011 letter to Congress that falsely claimed the ATF was unaware the operation involved the underground sale of the assault weapons.
“Today, a bipartisan majority of the House of Representatives voted to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt for his continued refusal to produce relevant documents,” Issa said after the vote. “This was not the outcome I had sought and it could have been avoided had Attorney General Holder actually produced the subpoenaed documents he said he could provide.”
Congressional sources tell Fox News that House GOP leaders will now meet to decide the next steps, but the investigation is expected to go forward with more subpoenas being issued.-[source]
An elderly man was arrested Monday night after a neighbor’s fart allegedly drove him to threaten him with a gun, police said.
Daniel Collins, 72, had been involved in an ongoing dispute with the unidentified neighbor for some time, Det. Lt. Andrew McGurr told a local media outlet. The neighbor told officers that Collins pointed a revolver at him in the vestibule of their apartment building at 694 Cedar Lane at around 9:25 p.m.
Collins said he confronted the man after hearing him pass gas in front of his apartment door, but denied threatening him with a gun. He consented to a search, and officers recovered a .32 caliber revolver from his vehicle.
He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a firearm and making terroristic threats.
He was released after being processed, McGurr said.-[source]
An Oregon man whose Army sergeant son died in Iraq saw his heartache compounded when the fallen soldier’s photo was used for a sham fundraising campaign on a Florida-based website.
The campaign was originally an ad in May on Craigslist Pensacola, then on another fundraising site soliciting money to help a wounded combat veteran identified as Chris Fennery, according to the Pensacola News Journal.
However, photos posted on the page were actually of Sean Patrick Fennerty, who died in a roadside bomb explosion in 2007. What’s worse, an investigation by the News-Journal found that Chris Fennery was known to neither the Pentagon nor the hospital where the fraudulent ad said he was recovering.
The real soldier’s father, Brian Fennerty, is not only hurt, he’s outraged by the use of his son’s picture.
“Think of all the things someone could scam, and this is pretty low,” Fennerty, professor of gastroenterology at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, told the newspaper after learning of the fraud. “I want this exposed. I just wish there was a way to keep this sort of thing from happening again.”
The solicitation for money claims to be from Tiffany Fennery, the twin sister of Chris, who she claims lost both legs and his left arm after stepping on an improvised explosive device on Mother’s Day. The plea does not say where the explosion supposedly occurred.
A vet who served with Sean Patrick Fennerty contacted the New Journal and explained the true identity of the soldier in the photo.-[source]
“President Obama stunned the nation when he announced that he would be implementing the chief provisions of the ‘DREAM Act’ through executive fiat” wrote Kansas Secretary of State Kris W. Kobach last week in the New York Post. Mr. Kobach is the co-author of the Arizona and Alabama illegal-immigration statutes now under scrutiny by the US Supreme Court.
The new federal policy Korbach attacks is announced in a memorandum issued by United States Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Fraulein Napolitano directing DHS agencies to (1) not deport illegal aliens who entered the United States as children, and (2) issue these illegal aliens indefinitely renewable Employment Authorization Documents (EADs)…Last month in United States v. Huitron-Guizar the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit issued an opinion upholding a lower court’s conviction and related sentence for an illegal alien’s violation of the federal Gun Control Act of 1968′s (GCA 68′s) alien-in-possession statute. Mr. Huitron-Guizar claimed he was merely exercising his Second Amendment rights.-[source]
The female-only shooting group “A Girl & A Gun” is giving Texas belles an opportunity to learn gun safety in a much more familiar environment. The organization was started by a single gun-owning gal, and it has grown to include 14 chapters across the state.
More and more ladies are buying guns, so of course these gals want to hit up the shooting range and practice with their new toys.
Michele Shulte, an NRA-certified gun instructor who teaches at the Snook chapter, says that their trigger therapy “is awesome.” She explains her fellow shooters’ mindset, “I have a lot of ladies who say, ‘I don’t know how to shoot a gun. I don’t feel comfortable.’ But that’s what this is all about.”
It’s really pretty surprising that we don’t hear about girls-only gun clubs more often. The gun world tends to be, shall we say, rather testosterone-filled. Giving these ladies an environment where they can shoot in the comfortable company of fellow women should help to make the experience a little bit more enjoyable. Not only are these women pushing the envelope on popular gender stereotypes, but they’re also learning crucial self defense skills that will last them the rest of their lives.-[source]
Homeowners in a rural Pima County subdivision are prepared to take matters into their own hands. The Three Points residents say there’s too much crime where they live and law enforcement isn’t doing enough to stop it. It’s led to one neighbor posting an unmistakable warning for criminals.
The homemade sign on the corner of Hilltop and Fullerton reads: “You [CENSORED] burglars: get ready to die very soon.”
Neighbor Vance Combs doesn’t know who wrote it, but isn’t surprised at the message.
9 On Your Side reporter Kevin Keen asked Combs, “Do you feel like a lot of people in the neighborhood feel that way?” “I know a lot of people in the neighborhood feel that way,” he answered. “A lot of people have made it well aware that they’re going to start using fire power and personal protection.” Keen said, “That sounds dangerous.” “To a criminal,” Combs replied.-[ source]
The parents of murdered border agent Brian Terry told Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Thursday that they think Attorney General Eric Holder and other Justice Department officials are “hiding something” in their response to the botched anti-gunrunning operation Fast and Furious.
The operation let illicit guns “walk” in the hope of tracking them to bigger traffickers, but many of the guns just disappeared into Mexico. Two of those guns were later found at the crime scene where Terry was killed in December 2010 just north of the border.
A House panel voted Wednesday along party lines to recommend holding Holder in contempt of Congress for not handing over a trove of documents related to Fast and Furious, and GOP leaders are considering a full House vote. President Obama has asserted executive privilege in keeping many of the documents out of public view.
Holder has not yet been formally held in contempt of Congress. The full House would still need to approve the resolution in order for that to happen –Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., suggested the vote can be avoided if the attorney general turns over more emails and memos about the Fast and Furious sting.
Holder has testified he only found out about Fast and Furious after Terry’s death, and he condemned the tactics. But GOP lawmakers have suggested top officials at the Justice Department knew more about the operation than they have said.-[source]
Five men severely wounded in wars stretching from Vietnam to Afghanistan are participating in 1 of the most daunting challenges of their lives.
They are attempting to summit North America’s tallest mountain.
While Alaska’s Mount McKinley is a formidable foe for anyone, it’s even more so for these climbers.
4 of them lost legs while serving in the military and 2 of them are double amputees. The other suffered permanent leg and back damage.
Stephen Martin, from Phoenix, is one of the double amputees. He is a retired member of the army and the National Guard.
He was hit by an IED in Afghanistan while working as a state department contractor.
He’s an avid runner, swimmer, bike rider and golfer, and also competes in triathlons.
Their intent in the Disabled Sports USA-sponsored climb is to show others gravely wounded in battle that they can again lead full and productive lives.
If they are successful, they plan to summit the 20,320-foot mountain on June 28. On Thursday, nine days into the climb, they were resting at 14,200 feet.-[source]

Police say a 14-year-old boy shot a suspect who was trying to break into his house.

The boy became face to face with a burglar, drugs who pointed a gun at him.
The 14-year-old fired at the suspect. The suspect is now in critical condition at an area hospital.
Police are also looking for a woman who may have been involved and had come to the door prior to the invasion.-[source]
A judge has set a new trial date for the man accused of murdering U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.
The trial of Manuel Osorio-Arellanes, medical which had been scheduled to start Tuesday, patient now is set for Nov. 6, 2012.
U.S. District Judge David Bury ordered the new trial date on May 31, but the order was unsealed this week as part of an ongoing practice of releasing some documents in a case that is otherwise sealed.
Terry, a member of the Border Patrol’s elite tactical team, was shot and killed late on the night of Dec. 14, 2010 west of Rio Rico. The team Terry was with confronted a group of suspected bandits in that remote spot, gunfire ensued, and Terry was hit and killed while Osorio-Arellanes was hit and wounded.
Osorio-Arellanes is charged with second-degree murder, and the only known co-defendant is Rito Osorio-Arellanes, whose relationship to Manuel has not been confirmed. The identities of other co-defendants remain sealed.-[source]
