Under pressure from the advocacy group ColorofChange, information pills Kraft Foods Inc. said Thursday night it would end its support for the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), cialis 40mg the conservative lobbying group that has backed state “Stand Your Ground” gun laws.
In its statement, Kraft said that it will not renew its membership in ALEC when it expires this spring. The global food manufacturer said there were a “number of reasons” for the split, but did not specifically mention the advocacy campaign against ALEC:
We belong to many external groups, including ALEC, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that promotes growth and fiscal responsibility.ALEC covers numerous issues but our involvement has been strictly limited to discussions about economic growth and development, transportation and tax policy. We did not participate in meetings or conversations related to other issues.
Our membership in ALEC expires this spring and for a number of reasons, including limited resources, we have made the decision not to renew.-[source]
Sean Combs, the Troy 18-year-old arrested for carrying a rifle in downtown Birmingham, was found not guilty Thursday afternoon of brandishing a firearm and disturbing the peace.
After nearly five hours of deliberation on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning at the 48th District Court, many on the seven-member jury were confident in their final decision.
“We upheld the law,” said Rev. Julius DelPino, a jury member from Rochester Hills. “Based on how the law is written, (Combs) was not breaking the law.”
Combs was arrested on April 13 after he was stopped by two Birmingham Police officers while he had his loaded M1 Garand rifle slung over his shoulder. When officers asked for identification, Combs refused.
As an adult, Combs was legally able to carry the rifle — a birthday present from an older brother — and under Michigan law, he wasn’t required to show police ID. However, officers testified Wednesday that Combs appeared very young and upon refusing show ID, Combs caused enough of a disturbance to attract a crowd.
A third charge of obstructing an officer was dismissed Wednesday by Judge Marc Barron due to lack of evidence.-[source]
A man who spent more than two decades serving the country is now battling crooks who have been stealing the emblem of his patriotic pride.
He’s served this country, but now faces a battle on the home front. Local veteran Ralph Franklin has lived in Tuscola for over 30 years and just now, for unknown reasons, is the victim of a petty, irritating crime.
To call Ralph Franklin patriotic would be sort of an understatement.
“I love flags and I love to fly my flags,” says Franklin.
He’s a veteran who’s served twenty years and a retiree living on a quiet Tuscola street. But this morning Franklin awoke to something unexpected.
Franklin says, “I got up at 4:30 and the flag was gone.”
Not just one flag, but three — and this wasn’t the first time either.
“Three flags total two times, so they stole a total of six flags,” says Franklin.
The initial theft happened July 3rd, just a day before America’s independence is celebrated.
Franklin adds, “A flag is just precious to me. And for someone to come along and steal my pride and joy, that’s just not good business.”-[source]
A Marine unit broke records by hitting a group of Taliban insurgents with a 22-mile artillery shot, medications Marine Corps Times reports. And you think you’re a good shot? Pfft – this shot was farther than most people’s commute to work.
Golf Battery, story 2nd Battalion, 11th Marines, out of Camp Pendleton, California launched a 155mm M982 Excalibur round on a group of Afghani insurgents. They fired the round out of an M77 howitzer at Forward Operating Base Zeebrugge, in Kajaki, launching the shot 36 kilometers into the neighboring Musa Qala district. The GPS-guided round was able to maintain its accuracy over an incredibly long distance and strike the Taliban insurgents out of the blue.
Not only did this set a record as the longest operational artillery shot in the history of the Marines, but it was also the longest shot with an Excalibur round, according to David Brockway of Raytheon Missile Systems, which is one of the companies involved in the development of Excalibur rounds. -[source]
A pro-gun group claims it flipped the script on Chicago’s firearms buyback program by selling old, broken rifles to the city and then using the money to buy guns and ammo for an NRA-sponsored shooting camp for kids.
“Guns Save Life,” based in Champaign, Ill., recently sold 60 firearms to the Chicago Police Department — 10 of which were manufactured before 1898 — in exchange for $6,240 in gift cards, according to group president John Boch. The sale also included five BB guns and a rickety pump-action shotgun that was held together by duct tape and zip ties, he said.
“They recognized it for the junk it was,” Boch said of the sale. “At one of the locations, one of the detectives was very tenacious … And hit the guys with a flurry of questions like ‘Where the hell did you get these, from a graveyard?’ ”
But the department carried out the transaction anyway, and the organization used the proceeds to fund the youth shooting camp. Boch said the money earned is being used to buy rifles and ammunition for an annual summer camp held at Darnall Gun Works & Ranges in Bloomington, Ill.-[source]
Senator Jerry Moran (R-KS) needs your help.
As GOA reported before the holiday break, order the United Nations has begun discussions over finalizing language in the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) — talks that are expected to last all month.
Senator Moran has prepared a letter, treat which GOA has in its possession, demanding that the Obama Administration oppose any treaty that would sacrifice Americans’ gun rights — even if it means “breaking consensus” at the July conference.
“We are concerned that the Arms Trade Treaty poses dangers to rights protected under the Second Amendment,” Senator Moran says in his letter.
You have to ratify the ATT to see what’s in it
Despite the risks to our liberties, there is much double-speak taking place at the UN. The talks in New York are reminiscent of the process that Americans saw with the passage of ObamaCare. Remember Nancy Pelosi’s famous quip: “You have to pass the [health care] bill so you can see what is in it”?
In similar fashion, the gun control details in the ATT will “not be publicly available” until the treaty has been agreed to by all the member nations.-[source]
Thieves broke into a gun shop overnight and made off with about a dozen guns, but they didn’t get far.
This happened at the Legendary Guns store on 19th Avenue, a block north of Camelback Road around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Police believe two suspects smashed their way through a window in a vacant store a couple doors down from Legendary Guns. Then the smashed their way through a wall and into the gun shop.
The suspects scooped up some rifles and pistols — and even a 50 millimeter gun, which costs $14,000. But in the process, they tripped off an alarm. They tried to escape with the weapons, but abandoned that effort when they saw a police car driving by the store.
More police responded to the alarms. The officers, using a police dog, captured one suspect who was trying to hide in a recycling bin.
Authorities are still looking for another man who they believe was involved.
David Larue, the store’s owner, says it’s been a constant battle keeping thieves out of the store.-[source]
The warnings about the Internet problem have been splashed across Facebook and Google. ISP’s have sent notices, and the FBI set up a special website.
But tens of thousands of Americans may still lose their internet service Monday unless they do a quick check of their computers for malware that could have taken over their machines more than a year ago.
Despite repeated alerts, the number of computers that probably are infected is more than 277,000 worldwide, down from about 360,000 in April. Of those still infected, the FBI believes that about 64,000 are in the United States.
Users whose computers are still infected Monday will lose their ability to go online, and they will have to call their service providers for help deleting the malware and reconnecting to the Internet.
The problem began when international hackers ran an online advertising scam to take control of more than 570,000 infected computers around the world. When the FBI went in to take down the hackers late last year, agents realized that if they turned off the malicious servers being used to control the computers, all the victims would lose their Internet service.
In a highly unusual move, the FBI set up a safety net. They brought in a private company to install two clean Internet servers to take over for the malicious servers so that people would not suddenly lose their Internet.-[source]
Led by feckless chief Justice John Roberts, the U.S. Supreme Court today upheld the ObamaCare law by a 5-to-4 decision, with Roberts voting with liberals Breyer, Ginsburg, Sotomayor and Kagan.
While the decision means many harmful things for the American public, the Second Amendment community remains greatly affected,
GOA’s John Velleco was at the U.S. Supreme Court today to speak with media about how the ObamaCare decision negatively impacts gun owners.
as the law requires Americans’ medical information to be culled and entered into a national database.
Centralizing these medical records will allow the FBI to troll a list of Americans for ailments such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) to deny them their gun rights, in the same way that the Veterans Administration has already denied more than 150,000 veterans their right to bear arms.
Ironically, the Boston Globe last week reported how snarky liberals have been shocked to learn that hundreds of pages of their most intimate psychiatric notes have been posted into the database — available for reading by hundreds (perhaps thousands) of strangers who work for their provider.-[source]
