WH Says Obama Supports Renewing AWB-Congress Won’t Act

On Monday, troche White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters that President Obama supports renewing the Assault Weapons Ban, order but pointed to Congress’s intransigence on the issue of gun control as the reason the administration hasn’t aggressively pursued the measure.

“He does support renewing the assault weapons ban,” Carney said at his press briefing, a day following the mass shooting at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin that left seven people dead, including the gunman.  During follow up questions on why more isn’t being done to reinstate the AWB, Carney added that, “there has been reluctance by Congress to pass that renewal.”

While running for president in 2008, Obama was a vocal supporter of renewing the federal ban on certain types of semi-automatic weapons, but after taking office Obama put gun control on the backburner, which many argue was a politically motivated decision, a concerted effort to avoid ruffling the feathers of gun owners in key swing states.

“The likelihood that a president in a closely contested election is going to do anything to mobilize the other candidate’s base approaches zero,” Kathleen Hall Jamieson, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg School for Communication in Philadelphia, told Bloomberg News. “If there’s any possibility that the gun rights constituency isn’t enamored of Romney, and hence might be less likely to vote, why would you want to rile them up?”-[source]

Texas Man Shoots Home Invader In Self-Defense!

Police are still trying to piece together the details of what happened. Some eye witnesses report that the home invasion included as many as three robbers, salve but the police have only captured one suspect. Here’s what we do know:

The alleged burglar(s) started the robbery rather politely – by knocking on the door. The home owner was home at the time, but he did not come to the door for unknown reasons. Taking that as the cue that the house was ripe for the picking, the thief or group of thieves attempted to break into the home.

One of them must have seen too many cop movies, because he tried to kick down the door SWAT-style. He put a couple boot prints onto the front door, but past that all he managed to do was alert the homeowner that something was very wrong.

The thief used a brick to shatter the window of the front door – meanwhile, the home owner phoned 911. According to Plano Police Officer David Tilley, the home owner told the dispatcher that there was a break-in and that he was going to defend himself with his firearm if necessary.

They say that what you know can’t hurt you, but in this case that definitely doesn’t apply. The would be-thief’s ignorance nearly cost him his life. The robber broke into the house and confronted the home owner at the top of the stairs. The thief then charged “towards (the home owner) at a rapid pace,” said Tilley, forcing the home owner to raise his gun in self-defense.

The home owner shot at least one round at the robber, striking him. The suspect quickly fled from the residence – the first and only smart thing that he’d done all day.-[source]

Gun Owner Saves Cop’s Life, Shoots Deranged Gunman!

It’s not every day that you hear the police give a civilian a warm “thank you” for entering a lethal shootout, online but that’s exactly what happened in Early, viagra sale Texas on Sunday. But before we get into the heroic civilian shooter, click let’s back up a bit.

See a Man About a Dog

It all began, innocently enough, “as a squabble over dogs.” David Michael House, 58, and Iris Valentina Calaci, 53, were both residents at the Peach House RV Park in central Texas. They were also dog owners, and their pooches allegedly had a nasty habit of relieving themselves on the lawn of neighbor Charles Ronald Conner, 58.

According to eyewitnesses, Conner approached House about his dog, and an argument broke out. Rather than dealing with the confrontation like a normal human being, Conner allegedly went back to his RV, got his gun, returned to House, and lethally shot him.

The gun shots prompted Calaci to run screaming from her trailer home, but she didn’t get far. Conner chased her down, shot her once and then fired another shot into her, execution style.

Amazingly, Conner’s shooting spree didn’t end there. He also shot and killed the two dogs that, in his confused mind, started the mess.-[source]

Veterans Groups To Promote “Hunt With A Veteran”

Pennsylvania Game Commission officials, in partnership with the state chapters of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), are encouraging hunters to help veterans discover or rediscover the thrills and joys of hunting in Pennsylvania.

“This is an opportunity to do something special for the fine men and women who have served or continue to serve in America’s armed forces,” said Carl G. Roe, Game Commission executive director. “Our armed forces have defended our country and the rights we enjoy for more than two centuries.”

In 2012, Veterans Day will be observed on Monday, Nov. 12, rather than the traditional Nov. 11, which falls on a Sunday this year. In recognition of this situation, the Board of Game Commissioners moved to extend this year’s archery deer season to include the Monday holiday, for which many Pennsylvanians will have the day off of work.

“Since that action was taken by our Board, the Game Commission is encouraging licensed hunters to serve as a volunteer guide for a veteran not only as part of the archery deer season, but for any of the lawful species that may be hunted on Veterans Day or throughout the 2012-13 seasons.”-[source]

Gold Medal Winner Hounded About Her Gun

When you become the first US athlete in an individual sport to medal in five consecutive Olympics, online that’s kind of a big deal. As washingtonpostdotcom puts it, order you’re “Olympic royalty. Or should be.” If she was involved in any other sport, she’d be one of the toasts of London right now. “But Rhode, 33, is confronted with questions that few other athletes face because she is a shooter — a term embraced by Rhode and other athletes who shoot rifles and pistols for sport.” Hard to believe someone would actually call themself…a shooter, no? . . .

Here’s the crux of the problem:

Olympic shooters must deal with unfortunate associations: They compete in a sport — one that demands concentration and decades of practice — that also requires a machine that, when used maliciously, can kill people.

Wonder if javelin tossers suffer those same “unfortunate associations.” And we shudder to think what someone with ill intent could do with one of those rhythmic gymnastic wands. Naturally, Rhode was asked about the Midnight Movie Massacre just before her gold medal winning round of skeet earlier in the week.

Most other athletes get a pass on the podium. Swimmer Ryan Lochte won’t be asked about drownings in community pools. Gymnast Gabby Douglas will not be asked to comment on freak accidents at school jungle gyms.-[source]

UN ATT Fails On U.S. Opposition “After False NRA Rights Threat”

One week after the Aurora, Colo., mass murder brought gun-control back to the forefront of political discourse, the Obama administration found itself faced with its first test on the issue — and blinked.

An arms control treaty to regulate the $60 billion global business of illicit small arms trading that had worked its way through United Nations negotiating channels for several years came up at the final day of a U.N. global conference in New York on Friday. The U.S. joined Russia in objecting to a final version, with some diplomats and human rights advocates blaming the U.S. for the defeat.

As the Colorado slaughter put guns back on the agenda this week, Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Kansas) and 50 fellow senators sent a letter to President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Thursday, saying that they would vote against ratifying the treaty if it “restricts the rights of law-abiding American gun owners.”

Moran, in a press release, quoted a National Rifle Association leader, who said members would “never surrender our right to keep and bear arms to the United Nations.” Treaty opponent John Bolton, ex-President George W. Bush’s ambassador to the U.N., wrote that gun-control advocates “hope to use restrictions on international gun sales to control gun sales at home.”-[source]
