An Oklahoma gun owner shot and killed an intruder who broke into his home last Thursday. Yeah, yeah, we know – you’ve heard this story and stories just like it a thousand times before. This one’s a little bit different though, because this time the would-be thief was a woman.
The burglar in question was 50-year-old Mary Kathleen Sanders, but she also brought along two accomplices, 26-year-old Misty Dawn Puskaric and 37-year-old Starr Michelle Timmons. According to reports, Sanders had previously worked for the homeowner and therefore knew that he was disabled.
But just because somebody is disabled doesn’t mean that he can’t put up a fight — especially when he’s got a gun in his hand.
According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, the man was awaken by the three suspects as they burglarized his home. At some point between waking up and confronting the would-be robbers, he grabbed his gun. The homeowner shot and killed Sanders just outside of his home, prompting Puskaric and Timmons to flee the scene. The two women were later arrested by authorities and are being charged with first-degree burglary.-[source]
Shooting as a pastime is getting more and more popular every day. Gun sales are up, more people than ever before are getting their concealed-carry permits and as a whole, guns are becoming mainstream. This is especially true with women, who are leading the curve as the fastest-growing segment of the market. But we still get reports of stories like this one, about Prayse Dangler, who was prohibited to buy a shotgun by her local Walmart staff—because a Mossberg 930 was too much gun for a woman.
“Yesterday at Walmart I tried to buy a shotgun to keep at the house with me when Brad is gone. We live in the heart of downtown New Albany where there is a lot of foot traffic, and we believe that me having a reliable way to protect myself and our baby when Brad isn’t here is just a responsible thing to do.
“Here’s the kicker though. The man behind the counter looked at me in disbelief when I pointed out the beefy Mossberg 930 Tactical weapon that Brad had researched out for me and planned on taking me out shooting to get comfortable with. The man then proceeded to interrogate me about what I wanted it for and how it would be used. He said that I didn’t hold it right and that I needed ‘something else better suited to you.’ He put it back in the case and firmly refused to sell it—all because I am a petite young woman!
“He threatened me with the FBI and accused me of purchasing the gun for ‘someone else’—namely my husband who was with me. My husband informed him that IF he was the one that would be primarily using the gun then he would have bought it himself but it was going to be mine to keep with us and practice with, so we wanted it in my name…”-[source]
An arrest was made Friday in connection with a series of pipe-bomb explosions at a Glendale home, authorities said.
Tom Mangan, spokesman for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, said one man was apprehended at 8:15 a.m. outside a home in the 3200 block of West Villa Rita Drive.
Glendale police and Phoenix police bomb squads units were also on the scene.
Authorities arrested the man as he was driving away from the residence in a white four-door Chevrolet Suburban.
Mangan wouldn’t give any details about how the arrest is connected to a series of pipe bombing at a Glendale home for over a year.-[source]
The Justice Department’s internal investigator is poised to release a long-awaited report on Operation Fast and Furious that could answer some of the big remaining questions about the controversial Arizona gun-trafficking investigation.
Inspector General Michael Horowitz and his staff have taken more than a year to look into the operation, in which hundreds of guns were allowed to flow from Phoenix-area gun stores to suspected criminals in Mexico. If the current schedule holds, the report will be released before Horowitz testifies at a House Oversight Committee hearing on Tuesday (See story on C2).
The committee itself has issued several reports about Operation Fast and Furious, the most recent a 209-page account put out July 31. But in that report, the authors complain that congressional investigators have not had the same access to interview people or review documents that the inspector general had.
Now the many critics of the operation wonder if it will resolve any of the key questions on the gun-trafficking investigation that was revealed after the killing of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry. On Dec. 14, 2010, the Tucson Sector agent was shot and killed west of Rio Rico, and the group of suspected bandits who shot at agents left two guns purchased by a Fast and Furious suspect.
In a written statement, U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, who initially revealed the “gun-walking” aspect of Fast and Furious, said Terry’s family members “deserve better than the treatment they’ve thus far received from the Justice Department.-[source]
Brad Pitt and I share something in common. And no, decease it’s not what you’re thinking (to answer your question, healing no, cialis 40mg I’ve never dated Angelina. She did ask me out once, but I turned her down. She’s just not my type; I prefer more adventurous women). What Brad and I have in common is that we both love guns.
Now, it might be a bit of a stretch to call Brad Pitt a gun nut, but then again maybe not considering (a) he recently bought Angelina a shooting range as an engagement present and (b) his recent comments about guns and gun ownership in an interview with The Daily Mail.
“America is a country founded on guns. It’s in our DNA. It’s very strange but I feel better having a gun. I really do. I don’t feel safe, I don’t feel the house is completely safe, if I don’t have one hidden somewhere, Pitt told the UK Publication. “That’s my thinking, right or wrong.”-[source]
In the continuing saga of the RECOIL Magazine anti-2A flap (where a supposedly pro-gun magazine argued that a gun was “too dangerous” for civilians) it seems that H&K has finally added their two cents to the situation. The observant among you may have noticed that RECOIL editor Jerry Tsai tried to pass off the comments as something that H&K told him…
From Jerry’s apology:
In the article, I stated some information that was passed on to me about why the gun is not available for civilian purchase. By no means did I intend to imply that civilians are not responsible, nor do we lack the judgment to own such weapons, if I believed anything approaching this, clearly I would lead a much different life. I also mentioned in the article that the gun had no sporting purpose. This again, was information passed on to me and reported in the article without the necessary additional context.
In short, don’t shoot the messenger. Jerry seems to be making the case that he was just relaying some info from H&K on their thoughts about the gun.
Turns out H&K doesn’t agree that that was the way it went down and issued a statement not too long ago:
Some readers have misinterpreted a recent feature story in RECOIL magazine as a reflection of HK policy. Heckler & Koch has a long presence in the US civilian market and throughout that time has been an ardent and passionate supporter of the Second Amendment and the American civilian shooter. This will always be the case. The contents, opinions, and statements expressed in that feature story are those of the writer, not Heckler and Koch’s. Additionally, the writer and RECOIL magazine have issued a clarification and apology for the ill-chosen words used in the story.
The HK MP7A1 4.6 mm Personal Defense Weapon mentioned in the story is a selective-fire product (capable of “full automatic” fire) and is currently restricted to military and law enforcement agencies by BATF. HK-USA has previously researched introducing similar commercial products, chambered in 4.6 mm, but it was determined that the final product would not have enough appeal or be legally feasible.

Police say a homeowner shot and injured a suspect who allegedly broke into his home on Monday.
Phoenix police say three men tried to burglarize the home near 86th Avenue and Camelback Road just after 9 a.m.
The homeowner heard the suspects and grabbed a shotgun and confronted them.
Police say at least one round was fired and one of the men was shot in the leg.
The suspects fled in a vehicle which was spotted by officers and stopped near 75th and Glendale avenues where they were taken into custody.
Police say the suspect who was shot has a minor injury to his leg, rx possibly from a pellet from the shotgun.
Neither the homeowner nor his wife was injured.-[source]
“Like we mentioned before, hospital the MP7A1 is unavailable to civilians and for good reason. We all know that’s technology no civvies should ever get to lay their hands on. This is a purpose-built weapon with no sporting applications to speak of. It is made to put down scumbags, and that’s it. Mike Cabrera of Heckler & Koch Law Enforcement Sales and veteran law enforcement officer with SWAT unit experience points out that this is a gun that you do not want in the wrong, slimy hands. It comes with semi-automatic and full-auto firing modes only. Its overall size places it between a handgun and submachine gun. Its assault rifle capabilities and small size make this a serious weapon that should not be taken lightly.”-[source]
