Dec 17, approved 2012
News of a shooting in Oregon earlier this week was eclipsed with news of an even more tragic one this past weekend. However, help one important detail you will not hear in the mainstream media coverage is the fact that both could have been as devastating as each other had it not been for an armed citizen who stepped in and saved lives at a mall close to Portland.
As reported by local news station KGW News Channel 8 Friday, 22-year-old Nick Meli stepped in to prevent masked shooter Jacob Tyler Roberts from killing scores of people at the Clackamas Town Center Mall.
Meli, who has a concealed carry permit, positioned himself behind a pillar.
“He was working on his rifle,” said Meli. “He kept pulling the charging handle and hitting the side.”
The break in gunfire allowed Meli to pull out his own gun, but he never took his eyes off the shooter.
“As I was going down to pull, I saw someone in the back of the Charlotte move, and I knew if I fired and missed, I could hit them,” he said.
Meli took cover inside a nearby store. He never pulled the trigger. He stands by that decision.
“I’m not beating myself up cause I didn’t shoot him,” said Meli. “I know after he saw me, I think the last shot he fired was the one he used on himself.”
The shooter killed two victims, and seriously injured a teenage girl, but upon seeing an armed citizen ready to shoot back, Roberts ended the killing there by taking his own life.
As the KGW report notes, even police in Oregon have failed to acknowledge Meli’s role, with the Sheriff crediting only local officers and deputies with “hunting down” the shooter. In reality, the shooter was already dead when police found him.-[source]
An attempt by drug smugglers to propel cans of marijuana into the United States with a pneumatic cannon was thwarted by Border Patrol agents over the weekend.
The incident happened some time after sunset Friday in a field near County 22nd and the Colorado River, just northwest of San Luis, Ariz.
The drug smugglers crossed the Colorado River with the pneumatic cannon and entered an area of U.S. territory outside of the border fence. They then used a carbon dioxide canister to propel the pot over the salinity canal and the border fence into a field abut 500 feet away. The marijuana was tucked inside what appeared to be soup cans inside of larger cans and sealed on the ends.
“By actually shooting it over the fence, they don’t have to worry about mules or smugglers actually backpacking it across,” said Kyle Estes, Yuma Sector Border Patrol public affairs officer, adding someone was most likely waiting to pick up the marijuana on the U.S. side.-[source]
A federal appeals court in Chicago just lifted the ban on concealed carry in Illinois.
Seizing on the precedent of rulings like McDonald v. Chicago and DC v. Heller, buy more about the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the use and purpose of firearms has been clearly set forth in these previous decisions.
In the court’s majority, about it Judge Richard Posner wrote:
We are disinclined to engage in another round of historical analysis to determine whether eighteenth-century America understood the Second Amendment to include a right to bear guns outside the home. The Supreme Court has decided that the amendment confers a right to bear arms for self-defense, sildenafil which is as important outside the home as inside.
Moreover, Posner added, “The theoretical and empirical evidence…is consistent with concluding that a right to carry firearms in public may promote self-defense.”
This puts the ban back into the hands of the Illinois legislature, which has 180 days to rework it so that it both imposes “sensible limitations” but allows “the carrying of guns in public.”
The NRA’s Todd Vandermyde responded to the decision thus: “The debate is over. We won. There will be state wide carry law in 2013.”

The United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit ruled today that Illinois’ total ban on carrying firearms for self-defense outside the home or business is unconstitutional.
The case involves lead plaintiff Mary Shepard, discount an Illinois resident and a trained gun owner, sick who is licensed to carry a concealed handgun in both Utah and Florida. The National Rifle Association is funding this case. The Illinois State Rifle Association is a co-plaintiff in this case.
“The’s ruling is a victory for all law abiding citizens in Illinois and gun owners throughout the country, viagra 100mg ” said Wayne LaPierre, Executive Vice President of NRA. “The court recognized that the text and history of the Second Amendment guarantee individuals the right to carry firearms outside the home for self-defense and other lawful purposes. In light of this ruling, Mary Shepard and the people of Illinois will finally be able to exercise their Second Amendment rights.”
On September 28, 2009, while working as the treasurer of her church, Ms. Shepard and an 83-year-old co-worker were viciously attacked and beaten by a six-foot-three-inch, 245 pound man with a violent past and a criminal record. Ms. Shepard and her co-worker were lucky to survive, as each of them suffered major injuries to the head, neck and upper body. Ms. Shepard’s injuries required extensive surgeries and she continues physical therapy to this day attempting to recover from her injuries.
In today’s decision, Judge Richard Posner ruled that Illinois’ ban on carriage is unconstitutional. The Judge went on to say, “One doesn’t have to be a historian to realize that a right to keep and bear arms for personal self-defense in the eighteenth century could not rationally have been limited to the home. . . . Twenty-first century Illinois has no hostile Indians. But a Chicagoan is a good deal more likely to be attacked on a sidewalk than in his apartment on the 35th floor.”-[source]
A long line of people snaked out of a North County machine shop on a recent Sunday. The customers were there to build a gun.
Customers do not get to the machine shop until after they are checked out by Ares Armor in Oceanside. Team 10 promised not to reveal the location of the actual machine shop.
Dmitri Harris runs the Ares Armor store, and along with his buddies, information pills some Marine Corps infantry veterans. The shop is busy because more people are finding out about the chance to build your own gun without having to go through any registration or government signups of any kind.
It is possible because of the Gun Control Act of 1968. It reads, “an unlicensed individual may make a firearm,” but also says it has to be for personal use and cannot be for sale or distribution.
Harris warns that not everyone can build their own gun. Non U.S. citizens, felons or anyone disqualified from gun ownership cannot participate.-[source]

There are a lot of American flags in Copenhagen, but two in particular are creating a buzz. Right on Main Street, the two American Flags are hung upside down.
The woman who hung them that way is a Fort Drum soldier.
That woman told 7 News she couldn’t not give us her name or speak publicly because of her affiliation with the military, but she did tell us why she is flying the flags upside down: It is in protest of President Barack Obama’s reelection.
She says Obama is trying to destroy the country and this is her expression of disapproval.
But as you can imagine, this expression is ruffling some feathers in the community.-[source]
A former Border Patrol agent was sentenced to more than four years in a federal prison for gun-smuggling today.
Ricardo Montalvo, 28, pled guilty to the charges in August and was sentenced today by Senior U.S. District Judge David Briones to 51 months in a low-security Federal Correctional Institution in Bastrop, Texas.
He will also pay a $100 fine and be on three years probation following his release.
Before Montalvo was sentenced he said he was ready to “better myself.”
“I would like to apologize to you, the prosecutor, my family and my co-workers that I hurt,” Montalvo said. “I made a terrible mistake and there are no excuses. I am ready to face the consequences. I hurt everyone I love.”
Montalvo will also be enrolled in a drug and alcohol program while in prison, which could reduce his sentence by a year if successful.
His lawyer, Sib Abraham, said a dependence on alcohol was a contributing factor in Montalvo’s crime because he “was not in a good place.” Montalvo’s family was in the courtroom for his sentencing. Some of them tried to fight back tears after the hearing.

Once again the liberal press and gun control zealots are going out of their way to make criminals look like saints and victims look like monsters.
This can be seen in the case of George Zimmerman who defended himself from a savage beating at the hands of Trayvon Martin. The police on the scene, who witnessed first hand Zimmerman’s injuries, declared that he had acted in self defense and released him. But when the press heard that a man named George Zimmerman had shot a black “kid” named Trayvon, they swooped in like media Valkyrie in order to paint this as a hate crime.
I can all but guarantee you that if George Zimmerman used his mothers maiden name and went by Jorge Guiterrez (not sure of his mom’s Peruvian maiden name so just used that as an example) then this case would never have seen the light of day. Plus, when it was discovered that George was a registered Democrat the Liberal Press would have fled the story in a heart beat.
Because the truth doesn’t fit into their narrative…they hear that a guy named Zimmerman shot an unarmed black “kid” and all of a sudden they paint Zimmerman as a white, extreme conservative, tea partier who shot Martin based solely on race. Zimmerman never had a chance. They media had tried and convicted him on his name and because doing so was good for ratings they justified it to themselves.-[source]
