The female-only shooting group “A Girl & A Gun” is giving Texas belles an opportunity to learn gun safety in a much more familiar environment. The organization was started by a single gun-owning gal, and it has grown to include 14 chapters across the state.
More and more ladies are buying guns, so of course these gals want to hit up the shooting range and practice with their new toys.
Michele Shulte, an NRA-certified gun instructor who teaches at the Snook chapter, says that their trigger therapy “is awesome.” She explains her fellow shooters’ mindset, “I have a lot of ladies who say, ‘I don’t know how to shoot a gun. I don’t feel comfortable.’ But that’s what this is all about.”
It’s really pretty surprising that we don’t hear about girls-only gun clubs more often. The gun world tends to be, shall we say, rather testosterone-filled. Giving these ladies an environment where they can shoot in the comfortable company of fellow women should help to make the experience a little bit more enjoyable. Not only are these women pushing the envelope on popular gender stereotypes, but they’re also learning crucial self defense skills that will last them the rest of their lives.-[source]
