The U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit will host an Olympic selection match this month, sponsored by USA Shooting, the national governing body for Olympic shooting sports in the United States.
Most of the country’s top pistol shooters will come to Fort Benning to compete in the first Olympic selection match to choose the 2004 U.S. Olympic Pistol Team Sept. 21 to 29. Competitors’ scores from this match will be added to their scores from the second selection match and the top shooters will make the Olympic Team.
The second Olympic selection match for pistol, which is also the Olympic selection match for rifle and running target, is tentatively scheduled for May 15 to 25 at Fort Benning. The first Olympic selection match for shotgun will be Oct. 1 to 11 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., and the second selection match is set for March 17 to April 4 at Fort Benning.The competition schedule for the pistol selection match is as follows; shooting starts everyday at 9 a.m.:
* Sept. 21: Official training for Men’s Free Pistol at Pool Outdoor Range and for Women’s Air Pistol at Pool Indoor Range.
* Sept. 22: Men’s Free Pistol match at Pool Outdoor Range and Women’s Air Pistol match at Pool Indoor Range.
* Sept. 23: Men’s Free Pistol match at Pool Outdoor Range and Women’s Air Pistol match at Pool Indoor Range.
* Sept. 24: Official training for Men’s Air Pistol at Pool Indoor Range and for women’s Sport Pistol at Phillips Range.
* Sept. 25: Men’s Air Pistol match at Pool Indoor Range and Women’s Sport Pistol match at Phillips Range.
* Sept. 26: Men’s Air Pistol match at Pool Indoor Range and Women’s Sport Pistol match at Phillips Range.
* Sept. 27: Official training for Men’s Rapid Fire Pistol at Phillips Range.
* Sept. 28: Men’s Rapid Fire Pistol match at Phillips Range.
* Sept. 29: Men’s Rapid Fire Pistol match at Phillips Range.
